THE JELLYFOLD POINT OF VIEW

Electron microscopy is part of the protein design pipeline.

Jellyfold believes EM belongs within the protein design process, not downstream of it or separate from it. In the age of AI-driven protein design, real-world structural evidence is increasingly valuable for determining what to trust, guiding iteration, and making confident decisions.

Importantly, obtaining that evidence doesn't always require high-resolution cryo-EM. Negative-stain EM is an accessible and often overlooked tool that can quickly provide structural insight, helping researchers evaluate designs throughout the design cycle.

ABOUT ANDREW

Structural expertise for protein design.

Andrew J. Borst, Ph.D., is a structural biologist specializing in electron microscopy for protein design. He leads the Electron Microscopy R&D Center at the University of Washington's Institute for Protein Design, where he has helped develop high-throughput workflows for evaluating designed proteins using negative-stain EM and cryo-EM.

Drawing on his academic research experience, Andrew founded Jellyfold to help emerging protein design companies better understand their designs through experimental structural evidence. His goal is to make electron microscopy more accessible and useful throughout the protein design process both in academia and industry.

HOW WE WORK TOGETHER

Collaboration built around your project.

Bring a scientific question, a challenging dataset, or a workflow that needs sharper direction. We'll start with a complimentary 15–30 minute confidential conversation to understand your project, identify where Jellyfold can help, and decide how best to move forward.

From there, we can work together through focused discussions, data analysis, or tailored technical deliverables. Whether it's a single challenging question or ongoing support, collaboration is flexible and can take place remotely or on-site.
